Project overview

Livic Civil reconstructed a deteriorated residential driveway in Beach Haven, Auckland, renewing the structure from the underlying ground preparation through to the finished concrete surface.

The existing concrete had deteriorated enough to require more than a surface replacement. The work involved removing damaged concrete, excavating unsuitable material and rebuilding the driveway pavement for reliable everyday vehicle access.

Limited working space, existing underground services and an occupied property called for careful planning. The team coordinated safe access, protected surrounding infrastructure and worked to minimise disruption.

The original scope was extended to include an additional area alongside the house, providing a more complete renewal of the property’s driveway and vehicle access.

Scope of works

A coordinated sequence joined the civil groundwork to the finished architectural concrete surface.

  • Site preparation and demolition: break out and remove deteriorated concrete, excavate unsuitable material and dispose of existing driveway materials.
  • Ground improvement: prepare the subgrade, identify weak ground and allow for localised stabilisation where required.
  • Pavement reconstruction: install and compact 150 mm of GAP65 aggregate basecourse to establish a stable foundation.
  • Reinforced concrete construction: place 665 steel mesh and a 100 mm layer of 25 MPa concrete pavement.
  • Architectural concrete finishing: use black oxide concrete with an exposed-aggregate finish.
  • Final reinstatement: complete edge finishing, surrounding ground reinstatement, site clean-up and client handover.

The result

The project transformed an ageing driveway into a renewed residential accessway with a durable, high-quality concrete finish.

By rebuilding the underlying pavement rather than simply replacing the surface, Livic Civil delivered a practical solution designed for everyday vehicle use while improving the property’s presentation.

From excavation and ground preparation through to the final concrete finish, the project demonstrates Livic Civil’s ability to deliver well-managed civil construction at residential scale.
