An asphalt driveway can provide a consistent dark finish for residential access and parking. The starting point is understanding the site: the existing surface, the condition of the ground, where water flows and the vehicles that will use it.

Is asphalt right for your property?

Asphalt is often considered for larger driveways where upfront cost matters and for homeowners who prefer a dark surface. It can generally return to vehicle use sooner than new concrete, once the surface has cooled sufficiently and we have confirmed it is ready.

Preparation before paving

The supporting ground and base layers need to be suitable before asphalt is laid. Adding a fresh surface over soft or failed ground can leave the underlying problem in place. Where defects are present, we discuss the necessary repairs or reconstruction as part of the scope.

Levels and drainage are planned at the same time. We consider garage thresholds, existing paths, garden edges and where rainwater will go. Standard asphalt sheds water, so drainage needs to be part of the job.

Looking after new asphalt

Follow the opening and care instructions provided at handover. Fresh asphalt needs care with tight steering and concentrated loads, particularly in hot weather. Keep drains clear and deal with spills promptly using a suitable method; petrol and oil can damage the bitumen binder.
